Institute on Community Living

In October of 2003, Neighbours Inc. organized our first Institute on Community Living. More than 80 people from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Iowa, Minnesota, and Delaware gathered in King of Prussia, PA, to explore the possibilities of community living.

People who are advocating for themselves, parents, friends, and workers from agencies that support people with disabilities, gathered to talk about what is working, what is not, and what is still possible.

Patti Scott, C.E.O. of Neighbours Inc., Joe Wykowski, C.E.O. of Community Vision, Ed Cohle, Director of Philadelphia Association of Independent Support Brokers, and Dave Hasbury, Community and Organizational Consultant, began conversations about;

  • Owning a home as a means of ganing control and stabilizing life in the communty
  • Creating a personal system of support for living the life we choose in the community
  • Being inspired to think differently
  • Necessary ingredients for planning a better future

We hope to plan another Institute in the future, so stay tuned
