


	Support Brokers work for a person with a disability.This is really important! It reminds us all about who is in charge. A big part of a Support Broker's job is making sure that the person that they work for stays in charge of their own life. Support Brokers help facilitate the involvement of others in their life -- family, friends, co-workers, acquaintances. Support Brokers coordinate supports, assist with developing plans and budgets... and then help make the plan happen.

	The Support Broker creates a contract with the person receiving supports that clearly indicates what the Broker will provide.This may include:

	Helping people to stay connected to people who can be with them through their efforts to move in the direction of their goals and dreams.

	Helping people to learn about all of the issues related to being an employer of staff.

	Helping to learn about how to manage the financial resources that are available to them.


	Self Determination Our Support Brokers are guided by the principles of self determination...the opportunity for each and everyone of us to be in charge of our own lives. Freedom... to make our own choices Responsibility... for the choices we make Authority ... over the resources that support us Community... where we all belong Citizenship... with all of its rights and responibilities.


	Neighbours Inc. has developed Associations of Independent Support Brokers in: Philadelphia, PA Delaware County, PA Bucks County, PA ... and in New Jersey we have: Neighbours Affiliated Support Brokers
